Vendakka Mulakittathu . A spicy and tangy vendakkai curry made with tamarind paste, fried vendakka and spices.
Vendakka mulakittathu is a two step kerala curry where you first fry the vendakka and then cook the vendakka in a spicy tamarind gravy.This is one of the first kuzhambu I learned after my marriage. It is very simple and tastes so good. My hubby likes this mm so much.

You can have vendakka mulakittathu with hot steamed rice or as a side for dosa and idli. I prefer to have it with rice along with papad or beans carrot poriyal.Enjoy!
How to make vendakka mulakittathu or vendakkai kuzhambu or okra curry:
1. Wash the ladies finger, and cut them into thin and round slices. Soak tamarind in a cup of water and extract its juice. Set the tamarind extract aside. Heat 2 teaspoons of oil in a pan, and add the ladies finger.2. Cook until the ladies finger turn golden brown. Switch off and set aside. In the same pan, heat a teaspoon of oil, and then add the mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds splutter, add onions.3. Now add green chillies and garlic. Saute until onions turn golden brown. Then add turmeric powder, curry leaves, and salt. Stir well.4. Add tamarind juice and cook for about 3 minutes. Then add the fried ladies finger. Cook for a minute.5. Add a cup of water and salt. Cook until the curry thickens. Switch off.Now, vendakka mulakittathu is ready! Serve it with steamed rice.
