How to make tomato biryani or thakkali biryani:
1. Soak basmati rice in water for 15 minutes. Meantime, heat oil and ghee in a pan or pressure cooker, and let the cumin seeds sizzle.
2. Now add the chopped tomatoes and green chillies. Stir well. Then add grated coconut, chilli powder, salt, and turmeric powder.
3.Stir well and cook until it reaches a “thokku” like thick consistency. Now add the coriander leaves.
4. Now add two cups of water and bring it to a boil.
5. Then add the soaked rice after draining its water. Check for salt. When the rice starts to cook, close the pan and cook for 10 minutes in low flame. Your biryani will be done. If you are using a pressure cooker, then cook for a whistle and simmer the flame and cook for another 5 minutes.
6.Finally, open the lid/cooker and gently fluff the rice with a fork.
Now, tomato biryani is ready! Serve with onion raita or boondi raita.
