Thulasi Sadam, Basil Rice Recipe. A mildly spiced and flavored rice made with basil leaves, steamed rice and simple seasonings.
Recently, I got an wonderful opportunity to make this recipe in Puthiya Thalaimurai channel, and everyone liked this recipe. I shared the health benefits of thulasi leaves. Also, if you do not have thulasi leaves, you can use basil leaves. Hope you like my basil or thulasi sadam.

How to make Thulasi Sadam or Basil Rice:
1. In a non-stick pan, heat oil. Let the mustard seeds splutter. Add curry leaves, urad dal and channa dal. When both the dals turn light brown, add the chopped onion and chopped green chillies. Fry until onions become transparent.Now, add basil leaves and salt. Cook for five minutes.
2.Add boiled rice and coriander leaves. Mix well.
Now, Thulasi Sadham is ready! Serve warm with papad, spicy curry or thogayal.
- Cool the steamed rice completely before adding it to the pan.
