Sorakkai kootu recipe, bottle gourd with moong dal
Sorakkai kootu is an easy and simple dish to make. You can serve this sorakkai kootu with rice and sambar. I have posted several kootu recipes like Vazhaipoo Kootu, Avaraikkai Kootu, Cauliflower Carrot Kootu and Vellai Poosanikkai Kootu etc. You all liked them very much. How to make sorakkai kootu or bottle gourd with moong dal:
1.Bring 2.5 cups of water to boil, and cook moong dal until it turns soft or mushy. For faster cooking, you can soak moong dal in water for 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can also pressure cook moong dal by adding 2 cups of water until 3 whistles.2. Grind the ingredients listed under “To Grind” finely without adding water.3. Once the moong dal turns soft/mushy, add the sorakkai pieces and a cup of water. Cook for a minute. Then add turmeric powder and salt. Stir well.4. Once sorakkai turns soft and cooked, add the ground coconut mixture. Simmer the flame and cook for 3 to 5 minutes.5. Heat oil and let the mustard seeds splutter. Add urad dal, red chillies and curry leaves. Once urad dal turns golden brown, switch off. Add this seasoning to the kootu and give a quick stir. Cook for a minute and then switch off.Now, sorakkai kootu is ready! Serve hot with rice or sambar.
- You can avoid red chillies if you are using green chillies.
- If the kootu is watery, add a teaspoon of rice flour after adding the ground mixture.
- I did not peel sorakkai, but you can peel and use it.
