Kara pori recipe, masala pori recipe, spicy puffed rice
Masala kara pori is all all time favorite snack right from my childhood days. When I go to temples like Thiruvanthipuram or Divanur, the first thing I would ask my mom when I come out of the temple is “mummy, pori sapdalama?”
My mom gives me a good company in eating this pori. Also we used to travel a lot from Pondy to Chennai often. Those times, my mom will buy and keep this pori. We have a lot of varieties in pori like pattani pori, kara pori, kadalai pori etc. My mom loves kadalai pori the most, and I love the kara pori the most. By the time we reach Chennai, we would finish it off. Even after so many years, I still ask my mom for pori whenever we go to temple with my family.
Just love this pori so much. How much ever you eat, my stomach doesn’t get full…he he he.
How to make kara pori or masala pori or spicy murmura:
1. In a wide bottomed pan, heat a teaspoon of oil. Add peanuts, fried gram and curry leaves. Once they turn crispy, add the garlic and fry them in low flame for two minutes.
2. Now add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, and asafoetida. Fry for two minutes. In low flame, add the puffed rice.
3. Mix well until the puffed rice becomes crispy and blends well with the added spices. The puffed rice should be coated well with spices.
Now, masala kara pori is ready! Cool it down and store it in an airtight container.
