I did not even know that rasam powders are available in market. I would explore many rasam recipes from the book and finally landed up with this rasam powder recipe. My MIL usually makes rasam powder at home. She does not prefer buying turmeric, chilli, and garam masala powders at stores. When she visted us, she tasted my rasam and said the homemade rasam powder was too good. Gj also likes the rasam I make at home. You can make any rasam with this rasam powder recipe, and is very simple and easy to make. It does not consume your time at all. Try it out and enjoy your rasam.
How to make rasam powder:
1. Dry roast toor dal along with red chillies until golden brown. Transfer it to a plate and set aside. Then dry roast coriander seeds until nice aroma comes.2. Once you get nice aroma and also coriander seeds turn golden, set aside in the same plate. Now dry roast pepper corns until it splutters.3. Transfer the roasted pepper corns to the plate. Now finally dry roast cumin seeds until aroma comes and also till it turns golden brown.4. Transfer the roasted cumin seeds to the plate and let the ingredients cool down completely. Transfer the ingredients to the blender/mixer and grind it to a semi fine powder. Cool down completely and store it in an airtight container.Now, homemade rasam powder is ready!
- The shelf life comes to about 6 to 7 months.
- Always use a clean and dry spoon while handling the rasam powder.
